Day 40 - the floor arrives

Another busy day today - more Unistrut floor supports for the underfloor power and air conditioning pipework were installed.

The new fire cabling tray was installed to allow us to replace and neaten the existing building fire cabling that feeds the complex. That will take away a good portion of the ugly cabling that was previously in the roof cavity.

Core boring for the air conditioning pipework continued today.

The copper tubing itself and the associated insulation for the air conditioning arrived.

Power cabling continued, and will continue for most of next week. It's a big job - every cable needs to be run through the traywork, neatly tied down, and eventually terminated and tested.

Our webcam broke today - during the building work the temporary phone extension cable we're using suffered some damage. It was fixed mid afternoon and all is good again.

Most significantly the flooring started to arrive today - there's 3 truckloads of flooring going into this section of the facility (the picture shows some of the tiles located in the end section of the room).

Day 39 - let there be light...

Today the datacentre lights were livened up - they're on a temporary power supply for now. It was important to get these operating so that the contractors working in that area can see what they're doing.

In the photo we've got one of the guys from Surepower making the cable penetrations in the battery circuit breaker enclosures. These will be installed shortly.

Down the back is one of the fire contractors getting prepared to start their work - they have to relocate the existing building fire cabling (it was previously draped across the roof cavity above the false ceiling that was there), and they have to install the gas suppression system.

The air conditioning condensers were craned up to the roof this morning at around 6am and the A/C contractors have been working on those.

The first power cable inside the power & UPS room was run today, as can be seen in the photo below. These are the UPS input cables in the supply switchboard - 4 cables per UPS (3 phases and neutral). This is one of two cable chambers - the other two stage-1 UPS's connect through the other chamber.

The flooring didn't arrive today as we expected - the deliveries are apparently happening tomorrow and Saturday (they tell us it's being delivered in 3 truckloads).

The actual flooring should start going down towards the end of next week - it's being delayed so the under-floor trays, air conditioning positioning and pipework, and a couple of above floor activities can be completed first.

Day 38 - more electrical work

Today was another busy day.

The air conditioning condensers were removed from their crates and prepared for the lift to the roof tomorrow morning.

The remaining UPS's for stage-1 were positioned and bolted down today, and the batteries mostly loaded into the battery cabinets (pictured here still in the shipping container - there's a dozen more of these containers)

The sparkies pretty much finished off the installation of the lights, ready for them to be powered up tomorrow.

The flooring has been delayed slightly and is expected on-site tomorrow.

Builders bricked up one of the remaining doors today, leaving only the entry door and the necessary fire exits.

Day 37 - air conditioning condensers arrive

The air conditioning condenser units arrived today ready to be removed from their crates and craned to the roof.

The first UPS and battery cabinet was put into position, with the remaining 3 units (stage 1) to be moved into position shortly.

The light hangers for the datacentre area were mostly assembled and are ready for installation.

Our fibre guys are working on the provisioning of our first handful of fibre circuits to tie this site into our various networks. They're with the GIS department at the moment to produce the scope of work documents for the contractors. Once they're done, the contractors will start street splicing around the city.

Oh, and yes, someone put cable tray right in front of our webcam, so we'll have to look at moving it again :-)

Day 36

A fair bit happened on-site today, with 10 contractors there for most of the day.

* The sparkies put the two UPS output boards in place, levelled them, and bolted them down.
* More cable tray went into the power room to accomodate power cabling to the mechanical services (air conditioning) switchboards.
* Cable tray went into the datacentre area to support power cabling for the lights.
* Hooks were installed into the roof above all of the first stage rack positions to enable the lights to be suspended.
* The UPS room air conditioning units were levelled and core holes drilled for their associated pipework.
* We're told the raised flooring should have arrived in Sydney today and should be trucked to Brisbane overnight.

The switchboards above (two of them) are the UPS output boards. To the left of these two will go the rack distribution boards (eight of them), and on the wall to the left of that, the two mechanical boards.

Oh, yes, we moved the webcam out from behind that air conditioner :-)
