PIPE Networks - am I connected ?

ABOUT PIPE NETWORKS

PIPE Networks is an Internet Exchange (IX). IX are best thought of as a closed circuit where only the routes (valid IP ranges) from directly connected customers are distributed. This means that from inside PIPE Networks there is no access to the Internet (called default route or global routes).

HOW CAN I TELL IF I AM ROUTED VIA PIPE NETWORKS

PIPE Networks has setup several pages that allow customers to see if their network address is routed via the IX, from Traceroute Gateways you will see links that enable you to perform a trace for the state that you are in.

There you will find a link to a program that does a reverse traceroute to your computer. Instead of you tracerouting to us, we traceroute to you. Traceroute can be a very misunderstood tool as it hides fairly well assymetric behaviour in networks. By doing a traceroute "to" a location and a traceroute "from" a location it will be easier to see exactly how your traffic is routed.

You will need to use the appropriate link for your city/state.

If a person using Bigpond were to click on the Traceroute Gateway for Brisbane they may see :

OUTSIDE-PIPENETWORKS-IX means that your IP address is outside of PIPE Networks. This may mean that your ISP *could* charge you differently if you access PIPE Networks resources.
YOU NEED TO CHECK WITH YOUR ISP, PIPE NETWORKS MAKES NO WARRANTY TO END USERS AS TO THE BENEFITS OF USING PIPE NETWORKS.

I THINK I AM ON PIPE NETWORKS BUT I CANNOT ACCESS THE NEWS, GAMES OR MIRRORS

PIPE Networks uses IP address space for our internal resources that will only work if accessed from inside the IX. If you think you are routed via PIPE Networks (please check with the traceroute tool mentioned above to be sure) and you cannot access these resources then please contact your ISP.

PIPE Networks cannot give you any information about your ISPs network configuration or other details.
